A mix of high school commencements and Memorial Day observances are scheduled for the area this weekend.
VFW Post 6455 in Dickeyville will commemorate Memorial Day Sunday morning, beginning with a ceremony at Holy Ghost Catholic Church after the 8 a.m. Mass. Ceremonies will be held at Dickeyville Park at 9:10 a.m., the Immaculate Conception cemetery in Kieler at 9:40 a.m., and Louisburg Cemetery at 10 a.m.
Belmont will celebrate Memorial Day with a parade at 9 a.m., followed by a program in Bond Park at 9:45 a.m. The Belmont High School Band will perform “Metrix.” John Doyle will speak on “A Simple Soldier,” and the Rev. Peter Berg of the Belmont and Rewey United Methodist churches will give an address.
VFW Post 5276 and American Legion Post 473 will host Memorial Day church services at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson at 9 a.m. That will be followed by graveside services at the British Hollow church at 10:15 a.m., St. Thomas at 10:30 a.m., Van Buren Cemetery at 10:45 a.m., Potosi campgrounds at 11 a.m. and Hickory Hill Park at 11:30 a.m. Veterans are requested to meet in Tennyson at 8:30 a.m.
The Platteville Memorial Day program will begin with a concert by the Platteville High School Concert Band at City Hall Monday at 9:30 a.m. The concert will be followed by a program presented by American Legion Post 42 and VFW Post 5274 at 10 a.m.
After the program, a memorial service will be held in City Park.
Ritchie–Bowers–Kohout VFW Post 9298 will hold a Memorial Day service at Rock Church Cemetery in the Town of Clifton Monday at 10 a.m.
This is also the weekend of several area high school commencements. Belmont High School will have its commencement in the high school gymnasium Friday at 7:30 p.m. Cuba City High School’s commencement will be in the high school’s Jerry Petitgoue Gymnasium Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Iowa–Grant High School’s commencement will be in the high school gymnasium Sunday at 1 p.m. Potosi High School’s commencement will be in the high school gymnasium Sunday at 1 p.m.
