The Lafayette County Relay for Life was held on Saturday and Sunday, July 19 and 20 in Darlington at the Lafayette County Fairgrounds and was a success, according to organizers.

“We felt that the 2014 Relay for Life was a huge success—raising $92,262 to date,” said Linda Siegenthaler. “We had a record breaking 930 luminarias and raised just under $11,000 in the cake and silent auctions.”

Honorary co-chairs Shari Ruesga and Connie McIntyre, both of Darlington, spoke about their experiences overcoming cancer and spokespeople from the corporate sponsors of the event, the Meylor and Reichling families, spoke during the event’s opening ceremony on Saturday.

Siegenthaler also stated that there were over 300 community members, friends and families who gathered for the overnight event where they celebrated, remembered and fought back against cancer.
