The 2016 Vet Fest will hold its seventh annual Half Marathon, 5K Run/Walk, 1 Mile Walk, and Little Beaver Fun Run April 9 in Reedsburg.

Vet Fest’s Little Beaver Fun Run, is for kids eleven and younger, and is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. sharp, with the half marathon starting at 9:03 a.m., 5K Run starting at 9:30 a.m., and the 5K and 1 Mile walk will start at 9:35 a.m.

The running and walking events are great for people of all ages and at any level of fitness. Vet Fest’s events are a great place for people to experience their first formal run or add it to their list of races.

Avid runners, walkers, joggers, parents, grandparents, kids and athletes who are preparing for a spring sport may be particularly interested.

Awards for the half marathon and 5K Run will be given to male & female in age brackets beginning with age 7 and under all the way through age 70 and over.

The start and finish are located at Nishan Park, by the Lions and Jaycees building. There will be music and food available for participants and a professional photographer on-site throughout the morning to capture the running and walking experience. Registration is available by completing a form available on www.reedsburgvetfest.com or signing up online at www.active.com.

Online registration is open until 11:59 p.m. on April 4. Registration will open on race day at 7:30 a.m. All participants who pre-register by March 28 will be guaranteed a long sleeve t-shirt on race day. Race day registration will open on April 9, at 7:30 a.m. and the t-shirts will be offered as a first come, first serve basis until shirts run out. Post-race refreshments include electrolyte drinks, chocolate milk, fruit along with bagels and homemade cookies.

Register by March 18 for a chance to win one of six $25 Reedsburg Chamber gift certificates.

Vet Fest events had over 805 registrants last year, with many traveling from all over to run in Wisconsin spring weather. For many, it was their first visit to our community. The Vet Fest committee anticipates the number of racers to increase each year.

Vet Fest has been able to donate over $90,000 to various organizations in the past six years. Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Reedsburg Area Veterans’ organizations, Reedsburg Area United Fund, Badger Honor Flight, and will also be used towards a local high school scholarship.

As in the past, we are seeking volunteers, donations and/or sponsorships from area businesses.  If you, your business or your organization is interested in donating, please email: vetfestrun@gmail.com, find us on Facebook, or visit www.reedsburgvetfest.com.
