Veterans Day ceremonies planned starting Sunday

Veterans Day is Tuesday.

A Salute to Veterans Concert featuring Ken Kilian’s Classic Big Band will be held in the Platteville Municipal Building Auditorium Sunday at 2 p.m. The concert also will feature an address by veteran Andy Riechers of Belmont, along with other special guests.

Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students with ID.

Two Platteville schools will have programs Veterans Day — at Platteville Middle School at 8:15 a.m. and at Platteville High School at 9:55 a.m.

A Veterans Day observance by American Legion Post 473 and VFW Post 5276 will be held at Sts. Andrew–Thomas School in Potosi Tuesday. Veterans are to meet at the school at 9:30 a.m.

Benvenuto’s Italian Grill in Platteville will offer a free entrée for anyone with a military ID Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The UW–Platteville Wright Center for Non Traditional and Veteran Students is hosting a week of events to commemorate veterans’ service.

The Ullsvik Hall Nohr Gallery has a military mascots display through Nov. 21. A veterans reception will be held in the gallery Monday from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

On Veterans Day, a flag ceremony will be held on campus at 9 a.m. A free dinner for veterans will be held in the Markee Pioneer Student Center at 5 p.m., with a battle of the bands following at 6 p.m.

For Warrior Wednesday Nov. 12, people are being encouraged to wear red in support of Veterans November. A documentary on the Honor Flight will be shown in the Ullsvik Hall University Rooms Wednesday at 4 and 6:30 p.m.

A potluck lunch for veterans and active military students will be held at the Wright Center Friday, Nov. 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
