Platteville will host two unique events, one the first of its kind in this area, in the next week.

The first is Saturday, when Digman Grain Farms LLC, 1291 College Farm Road, will host A Day on the Farm from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A Day on the Farm will feature educational workshops, including dairy cow milking and raising backyard chickens, food canning, demonstrations of the creation of compost and straw bale gardening, and farm safety. Master gardeners will be present.

Kids’ activities will include a petting zoo, an antique tractor display and wagon rides. FFA groups will hold a Farm Olympics.

Food will be available from 4-H groups, cheese factories, local wineries and other vendors. A farmer’s market will also be on site.

The other event is Tuesday, when Make Music Platteville will feature performances of music from Americana to rock, in City Park, two businesses and four other locations starting at 1 p.m.

Make Music Platteville is the first edition of a worldwide music event on the first day of summer, the longest day of the year, that began in France in 1982.

The Platteville High School Band, Friends and Family will perform at City Park at 6 p.m., after “Sax ‘Appeal,’” billed as “Platteville’s largest saxophone ensemble.” The Platteville Regional Chamber Katie’s Garden will host the Bumblebee Challenge local semifinals, a challenge to play “Flight of the Bumblebee,” at 4 p.m.

Harmonica lessons, with 50 harmonicas given away, will be held at the Mining Museum at 1 p.m.
