Walk with Walker

About thirty people and a tiny dog in a stroller gathered to join Wisconsin First Lady Tonette Walker during a Walk with Walker event last Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The event, which kicked off at Wisconsin River Outings, was the 67th Walk with Walker event held by Tonette since 2011.

The First Lady explained that her husband and Governor of Wisconsin started Walk with Walker many years ago when he was a Milwaukee County Executive and he encouraged people to get up from their desks during their lunch hour to get some steps in.

“They said we could take it with us when Scott took office,” Tonette explained. “At first I didn’t know what direction we should take it in, the first walk was moms with strollers and now we have strollers with dogs! We moved from a more fitness angle to tourism and this is the third time ever I’ve also gotten to explore a downtown and I am really looking forward to it.”
