For National Aviation Day, Platteville Municipal Airport will host the EAA Young Eagles Day at Platteville Municipal Airport today from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event includes free airplane rides for children 8 to 17. Parents must be present to fill out a registration form. The 15-minute flights are first-come, first-flown. The American Legion will sell food.

This event is part of the EAA Young Eagles Program, created to interest young people in aviation. Since the program was launched in 1992, volunteer pilots have flown more than 1.9 million young people who reside in more than 90 countries. Pilots at the event will also explain more about their airplanes allowing young people to discover how airplanes work and how pilots ensure safety is the prime concern before every flight. Following the flight, each participant will receive a certificate, making them an official Young Eagle.

The rain date is Thursday. For more information, call the airport, 348-3582.
