Fourteen Wisconsin communities, including Dickeyville and Potosi, have been recognized by the American Dental Association, the Association of State and Territorial Dental Directors, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for helping prevent tooth decay among residents through 50 years of public water fluoridation.
The awards were presented at the annual National Oral Health Conference.
Fluoride is a naturally occurring compound in the environment. Verifiable science confirms community water fluoridation prevents at least 25 percent (conservative estimate) of tooth decay in children and adults throughout a lifetime and at all socioeconomic levels.
