Highway hears oil bids, disclose bridges contracts

The Lafayette County Highway Dept. considered two oil bids that were received for the 2018 asphalt and sealcoat season during their Friday, Feb. 21 meeting.
    Both companies were present including - Randy Holladay of Flint Hills Resources located in McFarland and Ken Schackleman of H.G. Meigs Oil of Portage. Several asphalt and emulsion products were bid, the results are as follows:

    Meigs also bid a sealcoat application rate of 15¢ per mile. The committee will study the numbers and make a decision at the next meeting. Traditionally both companies will receive a part of the counties oil business. Tom Jean, Lafayette County Highway Commissioner, found numbers from 2013 for comparison, HFRS-2 was at $2.39.
Bridge Reconstructions
    Contractors for three bridges to be built in Lafayette County in 2018 were revealed. The Federal bridge program pays for 80% of these bridges, Lafayette County pays for 10% and the townships, where the bridges are located, pay for 10%.
    •Bethel Grove Road bridge near the entrance to Lake Joy, was let in October.  The awarded bid was to Radtke Construction from Winneconne in the amount of $313,518.  The other bidders on that project were: Concrete Structures - $323,441; R.G. Huston - $344,569 and Larson Construction - $352,829.  Planned start date early March 2018.
    •Holland Road bridge near the intersection of Lange Road in Darlington and Willow Springs Townships was let in Sept.  The awarded bid went to Concrete Structures of Janesville in the amount of $333,246.  The other bidders on that project were: Larson Construction - $352,356,  R.G. Huston - $372,153, and Radtke Construction - $375,894.  Planned start date early to mid March 2018.
    •County Highway U bridge north of Shullsburg was let on Feb. 13.  Concrete Structures of Janesville was the low bidder at $323,000. Other bids received were: Larson Construction - $339,000; Radkte Construction - $348,000 and R.G. Huston - $367,000.  Planned start date June 15, 2018.
    Updates:
    •Very busy with the high water from the previous week. Jean wants portable message boards from the state.
    •Multi-Purpose Building is coming along, according to Jean. Overhead doors and masonry will be done coming week.
    In other business:
    •Approved two resolutions to purchase two new trucks - a snow plow estimated at $175,000 and steel drum roller at $120,000. These items need to have the resolutions to be taken to full county board for approval. Bids will be let at next meeting.
    •Approved vouchers for $118,000.
    •Approved overtime and comp time report for Jan. Overtime 225.7 hours and $6,429. Comp Time 115 hours and $3,243. It was mentioned Feb. would be higher.
    •Approved culvert quotes. The prices were lower then last year.
