The Moving Platteville Outdoors Steering Committee announced that Southwest Health committed $15,000 of additional funding to the Rountree Trail project, bringing the remaining amount needed to $138,900.

“Consistent with our vision of creating a healthier southwest Wisconsin, Southwest Health is making this contribution to kick off a renewed effort to move that vital vision forward,” said Southwest Health CEO Dan Rohrbach. “We are now asking our own employees to help us live out that vision, and we are partnering with Moving Platteville Outdoors and others to create more opportunities for everyone to live healthier and happier. This trail constitutes new local infrastructure that is necessary for a healthy, thriving community.”

“Over a year ago, Southwest Health pledged $5,000 early on as we were beginning to write our first grant requests for the expanded paving and lighting effort,” said Platteville Community Arboretum board member Gene Weber. “We knew having the support of our local not-for-profit health care network would be meaningful to grant reviewers – and it was.

“This additional gift at this time is especially helpful when the community is striving hard to gain the final funding needed to 100 percent complete the project. In doing so, Southwest Health is investing in a community asset that will advance the health and well-being of our community far into the future.”

“We know that improving access to paved and lighted trails contributes significantly to healthy communities, and in the long run that also reduces healthcare costs,” said Rohrbach. “At Southwest Health we are, of course, fully committed to providing exceptional patient care. Yet, today, as a true community partner, we are also committed to empowering the people we serve to live active, healthy lives.”
