Platteville's Hometown Festival Week starts Friday

The 14th annual Hometown Festival Week, which includes more events than perhaps any community festival in southwest Wisconsin, begins Friday and continues until Saturday, July 28.

Events are highlighted by the Hometown Hog Roast at Pizzeria Uno’s Back Bar, 155 W. Business 151, Saturday, July 21 from 2 to 11 p.m.

Live music will be provided by Swing Crew from 2 to 6 p.m. and Mighty Short Bus from 7 to 11 p.m. A raffle, pig races and the Pig Out Challenge shredded pork eating contest also will be held. Cost is $15 for food.

Hometown Festival Week begins Friday with the Walk in the Vineyard at Bauer–Kearns Winery, 30245 West Mound Road, at 4 p.m., and the Trivia Night fundraiser for the Platteville Community Fund at Steve’s Pizza Palace, 175 W. Main St., from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.

The Platteville Farmer’s Market will be held in City Park Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon. A flea market will also be held near the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce office, 275 W. Business 151, from 2 to 8 p.m.

On Sunday, the Platteville Kiwanis will have a pancake breakfast at Take 2 Restaurant, 111 Millennium Dr., from 7 a.m. to noon. The Mitchell–Rountree Stone Cottage will have an ice cream social at noon.

The Avalon Cinema downtown and the Millennium Cinema will have matinee prices for movies Monday. Southwest Health Center will hold its Strawberry Festival at Legion Field Tuesday at 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, July 25, the Platteville chamber will hold its Business After Hours at the American Family Insurance Robb Paquette Agency, 300 S. Water St., at 5 p.m. A fundraiser for the Elks dictionary program will be held at the Elks Lodge, 50 S. Oak St., from 5 to 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 26 is Miracle Treat Day at the Platteville Dairy Queen, 110 E. Business 151. Dairy Queen will donate $1 from each Blizzard sold to the Children’s Miracle Network.

The chamber’s Party in the Park will be held Thursday, July 26 at 4 p.m., with the Wundo Band performing at 6 p.m.
The Platteville Public Library, 65 W. Elm St., will host Geek Trivia Night Friday, July 27 from 7 to 9 p.m. To register teams, call 348-7441 ext. 4.

On Saturday, July 28, City Park will host both the Farmer’s Market from 7 a.m. to noon and the chamber’s Festival of the Arts — featuring an art fair, an art walk, live music, kids rides, and a craft corner — from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Platteville Main Street Program will hold Main Street Madness from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Summer Garden Tour, a self-guided tour of 10 gardens and a vineyard, will start at Katie’s Garden on West Business 151 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $10; proceeds will go to Platteville Special Olympics.
