2 on motorcycle killed in crash

TOWN OF POTOSI — A rural Potosi husband and wife were killed in a motorcycle crash at Stage Road and British Hollow Road Wednesday night.

The crash occurred when a motorcycle driven by David Edge, 59, and a pickiup truck driven by Joseph P. Stelpflug, 21, Potosi, collided around 8:09 p.m., according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.

According to the sheriff’s department, Stelpflug was driving north on Stage Road nearing British Hollow Road, while Edge was riding west on British Hollow Road. Edge turned south onto Stage Road and Stelpflug attempted to avoid the motorcycle, but a collision occurred, according to the sheriff’s department.

Edge’s wife, Joan, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Grant County Coroner’s office. David Edge was taken by Potosi EMS to Grant Regional Health Center, but later died of his injuries.

Neither of the Edges were wearing motorcycle helmets, according to the sheriff’s department.

The sheriff’s department was assisted by Potosi Fire and EMS and Lancaster police. The Wisconsin State Patrol is doing a reconstruction of the crash scene.

William Harris was riding north on Stage Road around 6:38 p.m. when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a car driven by Trevor Johnson, 16, Lancaster, according to the sheriff’s department.

Harris was taken by Potosi EMS to Finley Hospital in Dubuque with non-life-threatening injuries.
Harris was not wearing a helmet or protective riding gear, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

The Potosi Fire Department assisted at the scene. The crash is under investigation.
