Platteville EMS will have the same municipalities in it when it becomes Southwest Health Emergency Medical Service.

EMS Administrator Brian Allen said all the towns in the EMS district agreed to the EMS transfer agreement. The agreement needed to be approved by the City of Platteville, which took place May 26,  and the Town of Platteville, which took place in June, to become official.

The Grant County towns of Ellenboro, Harrison, Lima and Smelser, and the Lafayette County towns of Belmont and Elk Grove all agreed to the transfer to Southwest Health as well. Towns are required to furnish EMS service, either by operating their own EMS service or contracting with another EMS service.

Allen said current EMTs have about a week to apply for on-call EMT positions with Southwest Health.
