Grant County authorities are looking for information into a hit-and-run crash on Wisconsin 80 north of Hazel Green Sunday night.

A car driven by Brandon Monahan, 20, Platteville, rear-ended a car driven by Laurie Splinter, 41, Hazel Green, on 80 at Louisburg Road in the Town of Hazel Green during the blizzard Sunday evening.

According to the sheriff’s department, while Monahan was out of his car assessing damages, a third vehicle — described by witnesses as a dark-colored SUV — rear-ended Monahan’s vehicle, pinning him between his vehicle and Splinter’s vehicle.

The third vehicle left the scene, with its driver yelling obscenities to get out of the road while Monahan was pinned, according to the sheriff’s department.

Monahan was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque by Hazel Green EMS with what the sheriff’s department called “very severe leg injuries.”

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department, 723-2157, or Grant County Crime Stoppers, 1-800-789-6600.
