A Fennimore man was killed Tuesday when he lost control of the Town and Country Sanitation truck he was driving on Highway 82 approximately eight miles east of the village of DeSoto in the town of Sterling.

Chuck Weist, Jr. was travelling east on WIS 82 at approximately 3:30 p.m. and lost control after negotiating a curve to the right. The truck went off the right side of the road, down into a field, and overturned.

Weist was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Viroqua Fire Department using the Jaws of Life. He was transported to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse by Med-Link Air, where he was pronounced dead.

This marks the second traffic fatality in Vernon County in 2016.
