Fire at First Capitol Salvage in Belmont

The fire at First Capitol Salvage could be seen for miles Tuesday morning.

BELMONT — Area firefighters have been fighting a fire at First Capitol Salvage since mid-morning.

A Belmont resident who lives near the facility reported hearing a bang at 9:45 a.m. Within a short time, smoke from the fire could be seen from several miles away.

Smoke has been pouring from the fire through the center of Belmont pushed by winds from the west.

Platteville, Shullsburg and Cuba City firefighters were called for mutual aid. About an hour after the fire was reported, several more bangs could be heard from several blocks away.
