Four people were injured in a crash on U.S. 151 north of Mineral Point Sunday afternoon.

A vehicle driven by Anthony Cain Jr., 34, St. Joseph, Ill., was going north at a high rate of speed, according to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, around 2:10 p.m.

Cain’s car collided with a car driven by William Buckingham, 86, Mineral Point, at 151 and Iowa County YD.
Buckingham’s wife, Lois, 86, had to be extricated from their car. Cain also had to be extricated from his car. The Buckinghams were taken to Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville.

Cain was taken by MedFlight helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison with what the sheriff’s department termed “serious” injuries. Cain’s passenger, Garrett Smart, 20, Mineral Point, was also taken to Upland Hills Health.

The Buckinghams’ and Smart’s injuries are believed to be “not as serious,” according to the sheriff’s department.

Speed and alcohol were contributing factors to the crash, according to the sheriff’s department. The crash remains under investigation.

In addition to the sheriff’s department, Mineral Point and Dodgeville fire and EMS, the Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Iowa County Highway Department responded to the scene.
