WILLOW SPRINGS – A 25-year-old Lanark, Ill. man was killed when his truck hit a semi truck and grain trailer head-on Monday, Oct. 31 on Tibbits Road in the Town of Willow Springs.
Austin T. Shellhause and his passenger, Kyle J. Maulcahy, 25 of Darlington, were traveling east on Tibbits Road when Shellhause’s 2013 Ford F150 crossed into the westbound lane at the crest of a hill. The truck came into the path of a 1997 Peterbuilt semi truck and grain trailer driven by Steven H. Jones, 64 of Rewey. Jones tried to avoid striking the pickup, but was unsuccessful.
After being extracted from the vehicle, Med Flight airlifted Shellhause from the scene to the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison where he died as a result of his injuries.
Mulcahy and Jones were both transported to Upland Hills Hospital in Dodgeville with minor injuries.
Mineral Point Fire and EMS, UW Hospital’s Med Flight, Belmont EMS and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies at the scene. The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office also assisted by receiving the initial 911 call and relaying the information to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
This is the fourth Motor Vehicle Crash resulting in a fatality to occur on Lafayette County roadways in 2017.
