A Platteville resident received three phone calls in one day from, according to the caller, the Internal Revenue Service Wednesday.

The calls all came from the same number, (206) 445-0663, claiming the caller owed income taxes. The number is from the Seattle area.

According to the IRS’ website, “The IRS doesn’t initiate contact with taxpayers by email, text messages or social media channels to request personal or financial information. This includes requests for PIN numbers, passwords or similar access information for credit cards, banks or other financial accounts.”

More information is available at www.irs.gov/uac/Report-Phishing. Anyone wanting to report a scam call should call their local law enforcement agency’s nonemergency number.
