A 39-year-old Madison man was arrested in Mineral Point early Friday for an alleged armed robbery in Platteville.

Ryan J. Barthel was charged with armed robbery in his first appearance in Grant County Circuit Court in Lancaster Friday. Barthel’s preliminary hearing will be Jan. 6 at 1:45 p.m. Barthel is free on $5,000 cash bond.

Employees of Dominos Pizza, 490 E. Business 151, employees told Platteville police that Friday around 2:15 a.m. a man with his face painted black and armed with a knife robbed the store of cash and left in a dark-colored vehicle east on Business 151. Employees said the man had a kitchen knife, took an employee to the back to get cash, and threatened the three other employees who tried to leave that he would hurt the first employee.

Shortly after that, according to police, a clerk at a Mineral Point business told a Mineral Point police officer that someone had been in his business washing his face. The officer alerted the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, which stopped the vehicle.

A search of Barthel revealed a knife, black boot polish, and cash, according to police.
