A 27-year-old Mineral Point man was killed in a crash on Wisconsin 23 south of Mineral Point Friday evening.

James C. Richards died after the crash on 23 one-fourth mile south of Wisconsin 39 around 10:55 p.m.

According to the Iowa County Sheriff’s Department, Richards was driving north on 23 when his truck left the road and crashed. Richards was ejected from his vehicle and is not believed to have been wearing a seat belt, according to the sheriff’s department.

Richards was taken by Mineral Point EMS to Upland Hills Health in Dodgeville and then to UW Hospital in Madison, where he was pronounced dead.

Speed and alcohol are believed to have contributed to the crash, the sheriff’s department said.

The Mineral Point Fire Department assisted at the crash scene.
