Prairie du Chien man dies from injuries sustained in accident

An 83-year-old Prairie du Chien man died Saturday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident Friday afternoon on Highway 27 in the town of Bridgeport.

On Friday, April 1 at 4:14 p.m. the Crawford County Sheriff's Department received a 911 call reporting a one-vehicle roll over on State Highway 27 at Log House Lane in the town of Bridgeport.

Merrill G McMillin, 83, of Prairie du Chien, was operating a 2006 Jeep Liberty southbound on State Highway 27. The McMillin vehicle went off the roadway, striking the end of a guardrail along the southbound lane and continued traveling along a steep embankment. The vehicle struck the top of a concrete culvert retaining wall then rolled three times end over end, coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch. McMillin was injured in the crash and transported by Tri State Regional EMS to Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. McMillin was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of this crash has not been determined at this time and remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff's Department.

Assisting on scene were the Prairie du Chien Police Department, Bridgeport Fire Department, Bridgeport First Responders, Tri State Regional EMS and Bob's Towing.

On Saturday April 2, Merrill McMillin, who was transported to a La Crosse hospital, died from the injuries sustained in the crash.
