Shullsburg man first fatality in County

SHULLSBURG – On Sunday, April 9, 2017, at 9:21 a.m., the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a one vehicle Motorcycle Crash in the 28000 Block of CTH W, just to the east of the intersection of Dump Road, in Benton Township, in Lafayette County. It was reported that the motorcycle was down in the ditch and the driver was not breathing. Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Benton First Responders and Hazel Green EMS as well as the Benton Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The investigation of the crash determined that Richard T. Barry, age 59, of rural Shullsburg, was traveling eastbound on CTH W on a 1976 Harley Davidson, when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway on the north side of CTH W and overturned. Barry was ejected from the motorcycle.
Richard T. Barry was declared dead at the scene as a result of the crash, by the Lafayette County Coroner’s Office.
The crash remains under further investigation. This is the first Motor Vehicle Fatality of 2017 on Lafayette County roadways.
