POTOSI — A 63-year-old Potosi man was killed when a tree he was cutting fell on top of him April 5.

Daniel J. Woolfe was cutting a tree on his property at 218 S. Main St. around 9:25 a.m. When he was cutting the tree, the tree split and twisted and fell onto Woolfe’s chest, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

A Grant County sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and cut away the tree using Woolfe’s chainsaw, then started giving first aid. Potosi Fire and EMS then arrived at the scene and AirCare 3 of Dubuque was called to the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the AirCare 3 team was unable to revive Woolfe at the scene.
