Two people involved in Grant County traffic incidents died last week.

Randi L. Harris, 65, Postville, Iowa, died in Mercy Medical Center–Dubuque April 4.

One day earlier, Grant County sheriff’s deputies pursued Harris’ car for erratic driving on U.S. 151, starting from between Platteville and Dickeyville and the Dubuque–Wisconsin bridge. Harris’ car was finally stopped by the third set of stop sticks on U.S. 61/151 at Locust Street in Dubuque.

Dubuque police Lt. Pablo Ramirez said “it was clear she was not coherent” when police got to Harris’ car.

The passenger in a car–truck crash on U.S. 151 that killed the car’s driver March 25 has also died.

Orpha Smucker, 66, Harrisburg, Ore., was the passenger in a car driven by James L. Smucker, 77, that was hit by a truck pulling a trailer on 151 near Clay Hollow Road.

Grant County Chief Deputy Jack Johnson said the Smuckers appeared to have missed their turnoff onto U.S. 61 and were turning around to 61.

James Smucker was pronounced dead at the scene. Orpha Smucker was taken by Med Flight helicopter to UW Hospital in Madison, where she died Wednesday. The truck driver, Ashley N. Baur, 27, Hedrick, Iowa, was not injured.
