Vernon County Sheriffs Office mobilizes for seat belt campaign

To prevent deaths and injuries, the Vernon County Sheriff’s Office in Viroqua, along with law enforcement agencies from all over Wisconsin, is intensifying its safety belt enforcement efforts during the month of July.

“Click It or Ticket is more than just a slogan for us—it’s a lifesaving strategy,” Sheriff John Spears said in a press release.
“We’re the ones who have to tell families that someone they love was seriously injured or killed in a crash. We must deliver this tragic news even when we know that a safety belt could have prevented that injury or death. And that’s why we take safety belt enforcement seriously.

“We don’t want to stop and ticket drivers or passengers for not wearing a safety belt,” Spears continued. “But we also never want to tell families that their son, daughter, parent or other loved one was ejected from a vehicle or tossed around violently inside it during a crash because they did not buckle up.

“Buckling up is quick, easy, and a proven lifesaver.  So please remember—Click It or Ticket and together let’s achieve zero preventable traffic deaths,” concluded Spears.
