Wandering off, sleeping in public earn public intoxication tickets

An hour-long search involving police and Platteville firefighters was needed to find a 21-year-old Highland man early Friday.

Platteville police received a call around 2:42 a.m. that Jared John Yager had gone missing from McDonald’s in Platteville while celebrating his 21st birthday with friends. After Yager failed to return from the bathroom, Yager’s friends found that he had left the restaurant and could not find him, police said.

After an initial search failed to find Yager, police called the Platteville Fire Department, UW–Platteville police and the Grant County Sheriff’s Department were called to help search for Yager. Fireighters found Yager around 3:50 a.m. lying behind bushes next to Rountree Branch behind the Platteville Area Chamber of Commerce, “intoxicated, wet and dirty,” according to police.

Yager was taken by Platteville EMS to Southwest Health Center.

Yager was cited for public intoxication.

•    Eric J. Lackey, 23, Hartland, was cited for public intoxication when a Platteville police officer found him sleeping on the grass at Fourth Street and East Lewis Street Aug. 2 around 2:35 a.m.

Police found someone to take Lackey home.

Platteville police have issued six public intoxication citations since the ordinance became effective July 21.

•    Anna M. Burgess, 20, Platteville, was cited for presenting false identification, underage drinking, and underage drinking on a licensed premise Aug. 3. Burgess was arrested at Orville T’s, 30 N. Second St.

•    Denise M. Dobson, 36, Platteville, was cited for disorderly conduct early Sunday. Dobson was arrested after a caller requested police because he was being harassed by a woman near Players Bar, 50 E. Mineral St., around 2 a.m. UW–Platteville police assisted Platteville police.
