The banner of the Veterans Honor Roll was 20 feet long.

The City of Platteville was one of 20 communities named as finalists in the 2013 All America City Awards. The awards were presented in Denver Sunday night, culminating three days of community enthusiasm among the 20 finalists.

“I think it exposed a lot of people to the fact that Platteville even exists,” said city communications specialist Angie Donovan. “The process just built so many additional networks and connections in the community. We had the university involved, and the chamber, and Main Street, the city, and [Platteville Area Industrial Development Corp.], and so many other partners — it was such a collaboration.”

The 2013 All America Cities were Dubuque (which won for the second consecutive year and the third year since 2007); Birmingham, Ala.; Downey, Calif.; Montrose, Colo.; Peoria, Ill.; Owensboro, Ky.; Dunn, Garner, and Thomasville, N.C.; and Norfolk, Va.
