CUBA CITY—An internship opportunity has a Cuba City native returning to the area this summer.

Ryan Vail, a 2015 graduate of Cuba City High School, plans to return regularly in May through August for an internship of running his own branch of College Works Painting, a business that provides staining and painting of the exterior of houses.

The company allows college students the opportunity to run their very own painting franchise, learning the tricks of the trade as well as providing experience in running a business. The company was founded in California in 1993 and operates in 35 states, painting more than 10,000 homes annually.

Vail first learned about the opportunity in his macroeconomics course last fall. He is currently enrolled in the accounting program at UW-Whitewater.

“It’s an opportunity to develop skills that will help in the future no matter what I do for a career,” Vail said.
He will be providing estimates, hiring painters, acquiring clients and making sure those clients are satisfied with the job they receive.

Even though summer is a few months away, Vail has already been busy trying to secure clients. He plans on going door-to-door asking if people need his painting services this summer. He said he has already had a few calls returned for estimates and hopes to get more to expand his business.

Vail will split his time between Cuba City and Delavan, managing teams in both communities throughout the summer. All of his workers are trained by Sherwin-Williams.
