A Darlington Christmas Festival
floating trees
VIEW OF a past years floating Christmas trees lit up on the Pecatonica River

On Saturday, Dec. 1, as you walk down Main Street in Darlington, it will be adorned in holiday attire. The air will be filled with everyone’s favorite musical selections of the season.  You will have the opportunity to mingle with other cheerful folks who will smile and greet you with a hearty “Merry Christmas.”  You will have the chance to find the perfect gifts for those on your list while browsing the appealing shops.  You will be able to stop and admire the “living windows” and live Nativity scene as you stroll, and at one corner you could even join in with the merry carolers.
As evening approaches the street will be cleared and everyone will gather on the sidewalks to watch the old-fashioned lighted Christmas Parade make its way down Main Street, ending up at the Festival Grounds by the river. The grounds will be filled with holiday delights, including the presence of Santa for the children, free chili, s’mores and hot chocolate for all to enjoy as they warm their hands by the bonfires.
At about 7:00 p.m. everyone will oooh and aaah at the sight of the glimmering lighted Christmas Trees floating on the Pecatonica.  It will be a perfect holiday experience.  Then as you leave town you will be able to drive through the campgrounds just behind Main Street, where Darlingtonians have decorated and lighted the individual campsites. They are saying, “thanks for coming – please come back.  Happy Holidays!”
