Trojan boys track team repeats as Ridge & Valley Champions

THE 2017 NORTH CRAW-FORD BOYS TRACK TEAM accomplished one of their team goals on Tuesday, May 16 in Viroqua when they won the Ridge & Val-ley Conference Champion-ship. Its the fourth straight year the Trojans have brought home the trophy.

Continuing to having a great season, the North Crawford boys track team won the Ridge and Valley Conference Championship meet for the fourth year in a row on Tuesday, May 16.

North Crawford hosted the meet, but it was held in Viroqua since they have a rubberized track. The boys won the meet with 173 points followed by rival Kickapoo/LaFarge with 152. Next was Ithaca/ Weston 107, Wauzeka-Steuben 78, Seneca 25 and DeSoto 19.

There were many outstanding performances by the team starting with jumper Kenny Spencer. Spencer set a new conference record in the triple jump with a leap of 43’4”, beating the old record of 42’9.75” set in 2012 by Ithaca’s Cameron Mcgee. It was also a personal best for the season. Next, Kenny won the shot put, throwing in only his second meet of the year, with a toss of 40’9”. He was also third in the long jump with 20’5.75”. He also finished in third place in the 100-meter dash with 12.17.

Foreign exchange student Pierre de Beul also had a great day by setting a conference record in the 400-meter dash with great time of 51.65, beating the old record of 52.37 set in 1995 by Wauzeka’s Michael Mulliken. Pierre then went on to win the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.57. He also set a personal record in the high jump and ended in second place with a jump of 5’10”. Pierre also anchored the winning 4x400-meter relay with teammates Dallas Hershberger, Jack Polensky and Tristan Peters who ran 3:40.45.

Jumper/sprinter Skyler Olson also performed very well. Olson first won the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.81. Then he went on to win the long jump with a career best jump of 21’00”. He also took first place in the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.25. Olson then went on to place third in the triple jump with a leap of 42’2”.

Senior captain Dallas Hershberger was also a conference champion by winning the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 43.16

4x100-meter Relay – Taylor Perry, Daymien Mack, Grady Stovey, Clayton Herfel – fifth – 54.92

4x200-meter Relay – Dylan Ghormley, Tristan Peters, Sandon McClurg, Taylor Perry – third – 1:44.96

4x800-meter Relay – Cameron Steyer, Dylan Ghormley, Tristan Peters, Gavin Forkash – second – 9:15.63

Pole Vault – Dallas Hershberger – fourth – 10’0”, Cameron Steyer – fifth – 9’6” (PR)

“I couldn’t be more proud of all of the athletes today,” North Crawford Boys Track Coach Mike Allbaugh said after the meet. “They all stepped up in the most important meet of the year, many of them set personal records. And for the team to have two athletes set conference records, really speaks to the strength of the team. The rest of the season is going to be very exciting!”
