PLATTEVILLE — This year marks the 39th year that UW–Platteville will hold its Christmas telethon in support of Wisconsin Badger Camp.

This year’s telethon, the theme of which is “Once Upon a Time,” will take place Saturday, Dec. 1 from noon to 10 p.m. on Centurytel channel 5, produced and broadcast from the lower level of the Pioneer Tower.

The telethon will feature live entertainment, an auction, and interviews with Wisconsin Badger Camp patrons, staff and supporters, among other highlights. Community members are invited to visit the Pioneer Tower during the telethon and view the production.

“There will be many great auction items that were donated from businesses from throughout the surrounding communities,” said Colleen Garrity, director of UW–Platteville Media Technology Services.

The telethon can also be viewed live online at www.badgercamp.org. The website will feature a slideshow of all the auction items prior to Dec. 1. Auction items can also be found on pages 6A and 7A of The Platteville Journal this week.
Media Technology Services, along with Wisconsin Badger Camp staff, have been preparing for the event.

“A tremendous amount of work, from numerous people, is put into the telethon each year,” said Garrity. “To see the tote board climb throughout the day and to see the excitement on the campers’ faces makes all of the work worthwhile.”

The telethon crew will consist of Media Technology Services students. Media studies students and alumni will be involved as well.

Wisconsin Badger Camp’s mission is to serve people with developmental disabilities by providing quality outdoor recreational experiences. The camp, which includes 680 acres, overlooks the Wisconsin and Mississippi River Valley. It is located 10 miles south of Prairie du Chien.
