The PHS Scholarship Fund received two recent donations.
• Mike Ubersox of Ubersox Chrysler, Inc. committed $5,000 ($1,000 scholarship for each of the next five years) to the PHS Scholarship Fund requiring challenge matching funds.
This scholarship will be awarded to any PHS graduate planning a career in Mechanical (technician), Engineering, Education or Banking.
“Mike has been tremendously supportive of community service groups in Platteville and this is a wonderful commitment to our Platteville students’ future,” said Gene Weber of the PHS Scholarship Fund. “Wisconsin ranks eighth in the nation with students averaging $28,000 in debt upon graduation.”
“We all need to support our Platteville youth not only to show our appreciation for their families’ business but to assure our city’s future growth will have talented people to support our businesses,” said Ubersox. “Encouraging continued education by helping limit the student debt load is a part of that.”
Ubersox has a Chrysler dealership at the Platteville location along with his Shimmer Car Wash Detail Facility and Ashley’s Market. He also has dealerships in Darlington and Barneveld.
• Tim and Chris Budden have set up a third scholarship, a $1,000 scholarship for the class of 2014.
“Their scholarship was part of the $13,500 Challenge Match by several contributors put up that is resulting in many community members are now sending in donations to create more scholarships,” said Weber. “That helps scholarship fundraising immensely.”
“It is important to our community to encourage our students to continue their education,” said Tim Budden.
“With the high cost of education, we all need to help where we can,” said Chris Budden.
The PHS Scholarship Fund is affiliated with the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin, a tax exempt 501(c)(3) public charity.
