Government shutdown not affecting local WIC services

The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is still open for business in Wisconsin despite the federal government shutdown, according to Elizabeth Johnson, Health Department Director.

“Our clinic hours remain the same,” Johnson said. “Families should keep their appointments at WIC offices and use their food checks at the store. We do not anticipate a delay or interruption in services at this time.”

Farmers participating in the WIC and Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program, and local merchants and vendors, should not experience difficulty redeeming WIC vouchers.

Updates will be available at www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/wic or by calling the Vernon County WIC Program directly at 608-637-5260.   WIC families may also be able to receive updates by text or email by signing up for that option at our local WIC office.
