Amos Lavern Peterson, age 94 of Blanchardville, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at his home.  He was born on Feb. 3, 1922 in Moscow Township, Iowa County, the son of Bernhardt Henry & Anna Christine (Johnsrud) Peterson.  He attended Adamsville grade school and graduated from the Hollandale high school in 1939.  Amos was married on July 15, 1943 to Marie Marty at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville.  He was in the Civilian Conservation Core from 1939 until April 18, 1940.  He enlisted in the Army Air Core on Nov. 27, 1940.  He was in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of operations from 1940 to 1944, and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor in World War II.  He lived in the Hollandale and Waldwick area, farmed with his wife Marie for 37 years, and moved to Blanchardville in 1982.  He worked at Pecatonica Area School as a custodian for 11 years.  Amos was an avid and competitive bowler, on teams all his life.  He bowled the day before he died, winning 3 of 4 games and meeting his average.  He loved fishing, especially with his grandchildren and friends.  He loved flying with his brother Raymond.  Amos was also an avid deer hunter and loved cooking the fish he caught and game he hunted.  Amos was a member of the Perry Lutheran Church, Hollandale American Legion Post 510, a life member of DAV chapter 67 where he was Chaplain for many years, a life member of VFW 10395, and a life member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Inc.
Amos is survived by his wife, Marie Peterson, of Blanchardville; Seven children, Evelyn (Tom) Weier of Hollandale, Terry Peterson of Blanchardville, Sherry (Philip) Schadler of Mazomanie, Jerry “Pete” Peterson of Hollandale, Jane (Dean) Whitish of Hollandale, Stanley (Robin) Peterson of Mineral Point, and Cindy (John) Johnson of Mineral Point; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Peterson of Madison; two sisters-in-law, Marcia Peterson of Mineral Point, and Grace Peterson of Blue Mounds; 24 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ben Peterson; 8 Brothers, Amos in infancy, Raymond, Darwin, Percy, Lloyd, Delbert, Maynard and Bernard; and 4 sisters, Alta Marty, Bernice Voss, Verda Nelson, and Florence Davidson.
A visitation for Amos Peterson will be held on Sunday afternoon and evening, May 22, 2016 from 3 :00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Perry Lutheran Church in Daleyville.  Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Rev. Kelli Fisher of the Perry Lutheran church will officiate.  Burial will be in the Perry Lutheran Church Cemetery in Daleyville.  The Saether Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Online memories and condolences can be shared with the family at www.saetherfuneralhome.com
