Arthur A. “Al” Stockwell, age 77 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI.

He was born on May 25, 1938 to Leo and Nellie Stockwell.  Arthur was united in marriage to Katherine “Kay” Sebranek on June 10, 1961 at Wesley Methodist Church in La Crosse, WI.

Arthur served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Following the service they returned to Hillsboro.  He began working at Badger Ordinance near Baraboo and later with his father-in-law, Ray Sebranek, at a gas station and garage in Hillsboro, which they later bought and operated as Al’s Citgo for many years.  Later it was known as Al’s Garage and U Haul.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles and for many years they registered deer during the hunting season.

Survivors include his children, Kevin (Becky) Stockwell of Hillsboro, Michael (Diane) Stockwell of Hillsboro, and Lori (Brent) Schroeder of Holmen; seven grandchildren Cody, Jysse, Jacob, Max, and Grace Stockwell and Kyle and Kaitlyn Schroeder; a brother; his mother-in-law, Esther Sebranek of LaCrosse; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Sebranek and Terry Sebranek, both of LaCrosse.

He was recently preceded in death by his wife, Kay on Aug. 25, 2015; his parents; two children, Debra Kay and Todd Allan Stockwell; three brothers and four sisters.

A celebration of Al’s life will take place with a time of visitation for family and friends on Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 from 1-4 p.m. at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, WI.
