Barbara J. Martin, 80, of Gays Mills, died early Friday morning, August 24, 2012 at Sannes Skogdalen Nursing Home in Soldiers Grove.

She was born on January 3, 1932 at home in Crawford County to Clyde and Mae Pearl (Hanson) Dalton. Barbara graduated from Gays Mills High School and was married to Larry Martin. They later divorced. She was a lifetime member of the Congregational Church and the Ladies Aid. Barbara enjoyed hand quilting even though she was nearly blind. She was an avid gardener, craft maker, loved birds and had a menagerie of pets.

Barbara is survived by two children, Karen (Jerry) Mezera of Morrisonville and Randy (Sue) Martin of Viola; two grandchildren, Amanda Martin and Travis Martin; one great-grandson, Matthew Garcia Martin; a twin sister, Beverly June Pettit of Gays Mills; two nephews, Michael (Kim) Pettit and Robert (Patty) Pettit; two great-nephews, Greg (Sana) and Cody; one great-niece, Dawn, great-great nephew, Carroll and great-great niece, Stella.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Kenneth Pettit.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Vosseteig Funeral Home in Gays Mills. Pastor Lori Betz officiated with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery. Friends called on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

The Vosseteig Funeral Home of Gays Mills assisted the family with arrangements.
