Bernerd (Boone) V. Ackerson, 74, of Wonewoc, Wis., after a long battle with cancer, is at peace on Sunday, March 30 2014, with family by his side. He was born in Blackhawk County, IA on Dec. 9, 1939 to Bernerd C. and Florence E. (Gulick) Ackerson. He moved to the Hillsboro, Wis., area when he was 18. He farmed most of his life, worked and retired after 17 years at Brunner Manufacturing. He married Janet M. Helgerson on April 14, 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; children: Robert (Nora) Murry, David (Joanne) Murry, LaVonne (Travis) Henze; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister, Judith McFerran of Ill.; brother, Herman Ackerson of Calif.; two aunts of Iowa; two half-brothers of Iowa; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His enjoyment was working outside, landscaping and gardening, country music dancing, auctions, yard sales, antiques, classic cars, family pets, and hosting cookouts for family and friends. Until his illness, he always had a “zip in his step and a smile on his face.” He could keep up with all the grandchildren in the yard, and loved every minute of it. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A private family service will be at a later date, per his wishes.

The Thompson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
