Carl L. Burgess, Sr., age 84, of Shullsburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He was born August 16, 1929 in Shullsburg the son of Francis and Hannah (Addison) Burgess.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 237 East Main Street in Benton, with Rev. David J. Flanagan officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery in Shullsburg with military graveside rites accorded by Joseph F. McCrea VFW Post #7896 in Benton. A visitation was held Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at O’Flahrity-Erickson Funeral Home, 235 North Judgement Street in Shullsburg, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Additionally there was a visitation held on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
