Carol Jean Saunders Benson died Thursday, March 22 at Pleasant View nursing home in Monroe.  She was born on Jan. 8, 1935 in Jackson County, Iowa the daughter of Davis and Hazel (Watters) Saunders.  Carol graduated from Maquoketa High School in Maquoketa, Iowa in 1953.  She worked in home health care and restaurants before moving to Wisconsin.  She married Chester Earl Benson on Nov. 13, 2004.
Carol enjoyed playing accordion and she and Earl played music together in many places in and around South Wayne where they lived.  She loved a party and she and Earl enjoyed many birthdays where they could play their beloved music.  Carol was a proud member of the Swiss Singers.
Carol is survived by a niece Karen (LeeRoy) Proesch of Wheatland, Iowa and a nephew Joseph Rowan of Iowa City, Iowa, and many other nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her husband Earl and two brothers and one sister.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (801 Milwaukee St., Argyle) where Rev. Traci Maass of Wiota Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was in East Wiota Cemetery. A visitation was held Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Carol’s name.
