Delphine Marie (McGinnis) Homb, age 96 of rural Scales Mound, Ill., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2016 at home.
At Mom’s request, the visitation was from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Scales Mound, where a Mass of Christian Burial was at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday.  Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery.  The Miller-Steinke Funeral Home of Scales Mound was in charge of arrangements.
She was born on Dec.24, 1919 at home in rural Gratiot to Robert and Mary (Wand) McGinnis.  She graduated from Gratiot High School in 1937 and attended Platteville Normal School (now the University of Wisconsin at Platteville.)
She taught at one room schools in Lafayette County before marrying Harold Homb on June 27, 1944.  He preceded her in death on July 23, 1991. She and her husband farmed in Lafayette County before moving to rural Scales Mound in 1952, eventually buying the farm in 1954.  She was the bookkeeper for the farm, raised seven children, and always had a large garden.  As a former educator, she attended lots of school functions, athletic events, and the church activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, James Homb; Jeanette Homb; Norman (Leigh Ann) Homb; Dolores (Jim) Groshans; Leila (Tom) Rowe; Paul (Sherry) Homb; and Mary Lynn (Craig) Forbes as well as twenty-two grandchildren and many great grandchildren; brother Art (Lorraine) McGinnis; brother Andy McGinnis; sister Roseanne (Bob) Gerbick; sister Toni Fox; and sister Pat Hintz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold; infant son, Anthony; daughter-in-law, Pat; grandson Douglas Schreck; a great-grandson Drew; sister Rita and husband Edwin Zimmerman; brother John and wife Eleanor McGinnis; sister-in-law Thelma McGinnis; brother Fran and wife Barb McGinnis; brother Bob and wife Mary McGinnis; brother-in-laws Robert Mau, Harold Fox, Harry Hintz, Ralph Homb and wife Margie.
We especially want to thank Dr. Mary Koenigs and the wonderful staff at FHN Hospice for allowing us to fulfill Mom’s wish to spend her last days on earth at home surrounded by family and friends.  A special thanks to Virginia Holland and Fr. Reese.
