Evelyn M. Slama, 83 of Hillsboro, died on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse.

She was born Oct.  15, 1930 in Summit Township, the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth (Henry) Mayer. She was united in marriage to Ronald Slama on June 18, 1952 at St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Wonewoc.

Evelyn worked at Ray-O-Vac, then went on to be a homemaker, raising five children on the family farm where she did gardening, flowers, and canning. She loved her family, and enjoyed dancing, drawing, sewing, and embroidery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Joe, and nephew Tony.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald; children, Becky Solchenberger of Wonewoc; Barbara Slama of LaCrosse; Carol Slama of Viroqua; Annette (Jay) Buchal of Hillsboro; Steve (Nancy Quinn) Slama of Kendall; sister, Dorothy Harmel;  grandchildren, Billy (Jamie) Solchenberger and Dawn Solchenberger; Megan, Macey, and Blake Buchal; great-grandchildren, Domenick Roloff and Kourtnie Weber, McKynly and Brynly Solchenberger;  two special friends,  Alma and Helen.

A Mass of Christian Burial was conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hillsboro with Fr. Donald Bauer officiating. Burial followed in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Mt. Tabor. Friends  called on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

The Thompson Funeral Home, 402 Center St. Wonewoc, WI assisted the family.
