A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, November 5, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima, 519 West Roosevelt Street in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Cuba City. A visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home and Crematory, 508 Main Street in Darlington, where a prayer service will be held at 4:00 p.m. and a visitation will also be held Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.

Fred Gierens, age 83, of Darlington, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington.
He was born Sept. 6, 1928, in Detroit, MI, the son of George and Mary (Sexton) Gierens. Fred graduated from Cuba City High School in 1947. He lived in Cuba City, and worked as a Machine Hand at John Deere Company in Dubuque, IA, and owned and operated Gieren's Corners Tavern south of Cuba City. In 1979, following his marriage to Lois Elma Staver on April 21  at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Darlington, he began working with Lois at Red's Supper Club. In 1995, they retired to Darlington.
