Gaylord “Jack” Ewers, 79 of Madison, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2012. He was born on Sept. 21, 1932 in Soldiers Grove, the son of John and Cora (Pugh) Ewers. Jack married his high school sweetheart, Delores (Hay) Ewers on August 28, 1952 in Soldiers Grove.

Jack graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1951 and from Madison Business College in 1957, with a Masters Degree in Accounting. Jack served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict and was later employed by Ohio Medical Products (now GE Healthcare) in various accounting and finance positions for 37 years, retiring in 1994. One of his most satisfying achievements was writing a computer program for the company sponsored 401K savings program which allowed all employees to personally test their various savings and investment plans until they were satisfied that their future financial goals could be met. Jack was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, serving in the Ushers Club and as an internal auditor for the church. He also was a member of the McFarland American Legion Post No. 534, and a lifetime member of the Madison Elks Club No. 410. Jack enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, traveling, and helping friends set up their financial retirement plans.

Jack is survived by his daughters, Terri (Joe Peterson) Ewers Rahn and Kathy (Mike Ruhde) Ewers; son-in-law, Art Mackesey; five grandsons, Derek, Lee, Jack, Rob and Alex; a great-granddaughter, Kailee; sisters, Maxine Dull and Melva Glasgow; sisters-in-law, Lois (Clayton) Hanson, Ruby (Richard) Hay and Mayme Ewers; a brother-in-law, Robert (Karen) Hay; many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Delores Ewers in 2010; daughter, Shari Mackesey in 2011; three sisters, Edna (Clay) Boyd, Arline (James) Conrad, and Esther (Bud) Powers; brother, Lewis Ewers; and brother-in-law, Richard Hay.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1904 Winnebago Street in Madison at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 with the Rev. Susan Schneider presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. A private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens.
