    Geraldine E. “Geri” Hirsbrunner, age 96 of Darlington, WI went to the arms of her Savior on Monday, October 9, 2017.  She was born May 29, 1921, in Darlington, the daughter of Elmer and Eva (Johnson) Malott. Geri was united in marriage to John Hirsbrunner on Aug 5, 1941, at St. John’s United church of Christ in Monroe. Together they farmed in the Darlington area until 1970 when she began working in the laundry department at Lafayette Manor Nursing Home until her retirement in 1983.Geri is survived by her five children: Judy Swanson of Darlington, Larry (Mary Kay) Hirsbrunner of Farmer City, IL, Ann (Bill) Wichman of Antioch, IL, Christine (Dave) Ubersox of South Wayne, WI, and Mark (Kelly) Hirsbrunner of Wever, IA; 9 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one sister: Jeanette (Arden) Sjostrom of Apple Valley, MN; and two sisters-in-law: Ruth Hirsbrunner of Darlington and Jody Deery of Rockford, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers: Delbert, Homer, and John Malott; one half-sister in infancy; one brother-in-law: George Hirsbrunner; and a granddaughter: Kimberly Dorsey.
    Geri was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ, its Women’s Guild, a Sunday School teacher, and a 4-H leader in sewing. She enjoyed spending time in her gardens, making afghans for her family, and baking. She will be remembered for her stories of growing up during the Great Depression and the sweet memories she made with her family. She always made sure every family member felt loved. Though her life was marred by many tragedies, she never let bitterness win. Her patient spirit and Christian faith were the hallmark of her life for many decades, and she will forever be greatly missed.
    Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 15, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Immanuel United Church of Christ (339 East Louisa Street, Darlington) with Rev. Stephen Stauffacher and Rev. Barbara Brakey co-officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 from 3:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Park Place, Darlington) and on Sunday from 1:00 P.M. until 1:45 P.M. at the church.
