James R. Shaw, age 77 years, of Hillsboro, passed away on Monday, Aug. 3, 2015 at Heritage Manor in Elroy, WI, where he has resided since the first week of March.

Jim was born on April 24, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas.  He and his family resided in La Cygne, Kansas, through his childhood years.  He spent the majority of his early years on his Aunt and Uncle’s farm near Oswatomie, Kansas.

When Jim was 13, his family relocated to Salinas, California and he graduated from Salinas Union High School in 1956.  After graduation he attended classes at Hartnell College in Salinas.  He worked for the City of Salinas for a number of years and later owned a nursery and landscaping company.  In 1970 he worked in construction as a field superintendent for Central Coast Pipeline.

Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Hanson on Dec. 4, 1970 in Salinas.

In 1976, Jim relocated his family to Hillsboro, WI, and did portable welding for several years and farmed.  Later, he became employed by Hillsboro Farmers Co-op as plumbing and heating manager and retired in 1996.

After retirement, Jim enjoyed traveling with Farmers State Bank.  He also traveled extensively in Canada, the United States and Mexico.  Jim was always ready to try something different.  He enjoyed restoring his 1949 Ford and had been working on a 1917 Buick Open Air Touring car just prior to entering Heritage Manor.

Jim is survived by his wife, Dotty; one brother, Dave Shaw of Roseville, CA; son, Gary Shaw of Santa Barbara, CA; daughter, Jamie Parker of Alderson, WV; son, Greg Shaw of Salinas; son, Paul Shaw of Vernon Hills, IL; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Shaw Gunn and Amanda Shaw; grandson, Chad Escamilla; granddaughter, Ashley Shaw; grandsons, Joshua and Jeremy Shaw; great-grandson, George Wells; and was also extremely proud of his extended family – Terry, Barb, Dusty, Heath, Krista and Owen Revels.

A celebration of Jim’s life will take place on Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with a visitation time from 4 to 7 p.m. and a memorial service at 7 p.m.  For online information go to www.pichafuneralhomes.com
