    Joseph J. Peters, age 61 of Mt. Horeb, WI passed away in his parked semi, his favorite place, on Friday, November 20, 2015 in Janesville, WI. He was born in Darlington, WI, February 2, 1954, the son of Clarence “Pete” and Marjorie (Schuster) Peters. Joseph attended Darlington Schools. He was united in marriage to Debra Doan on December 12, 1980 in Darlington, WI.
    Joseph lived in Darlington until 1988 when he moved to Janesville and then later to Mt. Horeb in 2010. He was employed at Kaiser Transport, Inc. where Joe was an over the road trucker with numerous awards for accident free driving. He was just shy of 2 million accident free miles. His handle was “Grizzly”, and then turned to “Big Joe”.
    Joseph is survived by three children: Joel Peters of Darlington, Michael (Erin) Peters of Madison, WI, Rachel Peters of Mt. Horeb; one brother: Paul Peters of Middleton, WI; and four sisters: Nancy (Al) Buchart of Deerfield, IL, Elaine Yonkus of Waukegan, IL, Ruth (Greg) Stadler of Watertown, Jean Peters of Darlington, and his grandchildren. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
    Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, and one sister: Marie Hornes.
    He was a very selfless, compassionate man. Joseph loved spending time with his family and was an avid Packer fan and also enjoyed Nascar Racing.
    Joe served in the US Army in Germany from 1972 until 1975, where he was a tank driver/mechanic. During his spare time in Germany he raced and repaired Volkswagen cars.
    A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, WI with Rev. Larry Balleine officiating. Military graveside rites will be accorded by Bates-O’Brien-Howe-Wiegel-Roelli American Legion Post #214 of Darlington. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m.until 4:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington.
