LeRoy R. Fields, age 83 of Shullsburg passed away on Jan. 8, 2016 at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington.  He was born on April 12, 1932 in Mifflin the son of Henderson and Blanche (Cook) Fields.  He married Grace Erner on June 11, 1952 at Menominee BVM church in Menominee.  LeRoy grew up in Rewey and was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Korea.  Following his honorable discharge he farmed with his wife in Menominee for 8 years before settling in Shullsburg in 1963.  LeRoy drove truck for McArdle Trucking for a few years before driving for McMorhan trucking.  In 1968, he bought his own truck and began over the road trucking.  In 1981, LeRoy started his own trucking business “Fields Trucking” where he remained until his retirement in 2002.
LeRoy is survived by his wife Grace at home; his five children: Mark (Laurie) Fields of Shullsburg, Sandy (Bo) Eicher of Gratiot, WI, Michael (fiancée; Mickey Kaiser) Fields of Madison, Sharon (Rich) Johnson of Amphoe Bang Lamung, Thailand and Dennis (Kelly) Fields of Monroe; three sisters: Norma Nager of Washington DC, Linda (Marshall) Jackson of Platteville, Jackie (Vic) Brey, Plain; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren: Karissa Fields and Chase Capp; two brothers: Raymond and Charlie Fields; and two sisters: Sandra Kay Fields in infancy and Dixie Birkett.
LeRoy was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Shullsburg, the McCann-Richards American Legion Post #105 of Shullsburg, the Pecatonica Valley Antique Club and the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club. He enjoyed camping with his family, tinkering at the shop and showing his WK-40 McCormick-Deering tractor at antique tractor and truck shows.   LeRoy will always be remembered for knowing someone no matter where he traveled and by the stories he told to family and friends alike.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church (344 N Judgment St, Shullsburg) with Rev. Joji Reddy officiating.  Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery where military graveside rites will be accorded by McCann-Richards American Legion Post #105 of Shullsburg.  A visitation was held Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Erickson Funeral Home (235 N Judgment St, Shullsburg) where a scripture service was held at 4:00 P.M. and on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. until 10:45 A.M. at the church.  Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
