Lyle Ann Simmons, age 85 of Darlington, passed away Friday, March 9, 2018 at the UW-Hospital in Madison. She was born April 24, 1932 in Waukon, Iowa the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Moe) White. Lyle Ann graduated from Waukon High School in 1949 and later went on to receive her Beauticians Diploma from Dubuque Beauty Academy in Dubuque, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert V. Cousins on May 19, 1951 in Scales Mound, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1980. She later married John E. “Jack” Simmons on June 18, 1983 in Darlington. Jack preceded her in death in 2014. Lyle Ann lived in Iowa for a number of years before purchasing a farm in Scales Mound, Ill. where she and her husband Robert farmed until his passing. In 1983 she moved to Darlington where she has resided since.
Lyle Ann is survived by her four children: Michael (Marilyn) Cousins of Dubuque, Iowa, Susan (David) Fulton of Hanover, Ill., Judy (Lou) Mennig of Dubuque, Iowa, and James (Lisa) Cousins of Apple Canyon Lake, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepchildren: Terri (Les) Benson of Darlington, Ed (Huilin) Simmons of Las Vegas, Nev.; numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Betty White of Waukon. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; one son: William Robert Cousins; one stepson: Tom Simmons; two brothers: Edmond and Walter White; and three sisters: Ila Fuller, Betty Brown and Alice Imburgia.
Lyle Ann was a member of Darlington United Methodist Church in Darlington and its UMW. She was a proud member of the Darlington Country Club and loved to golf. She enjoyed various activities at the Darlington community center, especially bowling and playing cards with her family and friends. She cherished her family and the time they spent together creating memories. Lyle Ann will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Darlington United Methodist Church (546 Park Place, Darlington) with Rev. Angela Utter officiating. Burial will be in Scales Mound Cemetery in Scales Mound, Ill. A visitation was held Wednesday, March 14, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home (508 Park Place, Darlington) and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
