Marietta Gleason

Marietta E. Gleason, 82, of Shullsburg died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, at home due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.  Services were at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, at St. Patrick’s Church in Benton with Rev. Bernard Rott officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Benton is in charge of arrangements.
Marietta was born on June 24, 1934, in Shullsburg, the daughter of John B. and Hazel M. (Hocking) Walton.  She married Joseph F. Gleason on September 17, 1955, at St. Matthew’s Church in Shullsburg.
Marietta graduated from Shullsburg High School in 1952.  She was a talented seamstress and also did upholstery until she and Joe began farming.  She loved baking and gardening and collected oil lamps and had a large cow collection.  Marietta was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and “mom” to many.  She always made everyone feel welcome and would do anything to help others.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph; her children, Kathleen “Sue” (Richard) Zach, of Hazel Green, Patrick (Betty) Gleason, of Shullsburg, Michael Gleason, of Dillsburg, Pa., David (Mary Ellen) Gleason, of Shullsburg, and Sally (Matthew) Johll, of Granville, Ill.; fifteen grandchildren, Jill, Sarah, Joseph, Ronni, Jodi, Brent, Chad, Ryan, Jeff, Amanda, Christopher, Emily, Ben, Alex and Nate; fourteen great-grandchildren, Merry, Christian, Nathan, Abbie, Chloe, Mikayla, Nick, Cassidy, Gage, Kinsey, McKenna, Mya, Macy and Claire; her siblings, Delmer Walton, of Benton, and Mildred Hall, of Lakeland, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Jewell Walton.
 She was preceded in death by her children, Daniel (1983), Thomas (1995), and Sandra Brandt (2003); her parents; her siblings and spouses, Cora (Sherman) Wonders, Hazel (Orville) Spore, James (Mildred) Walton, Leslie (Eleanor) Walton, Lloyd Walton, Thomas (Donietta) Walton, Arnold Walton, and Dorothy (Russell) Lancaster.
A Marietta E. Gleason Memorial Fund has been established.
